Secretary

Todd G. Clower
Junior advertising/public relations

What are your goals if elected Student Government Association Secretary?
My main goal is improving communications within SGA and all on campus organizations. I will put together a system which would form a communications network between all organizations and the administration. This would involve a representative visiting every campus organization at least once during the year. This process would represent the student body more accurately in SGA and would help serve student needs, as opposed to just talking about it. Diversity is a key issue.

What are your qualifications to serve as Student Government Association Secretary?
I have been involved with House for two years. I served as a Milton-Daniel representative along with the finance committee. I served as the Residential Concerns Committee Chair for one year, and helped other committees.

I have served in many leadership roles at TCU, meeting many members of the administration. I can work more efficiently because I will not waste time making connections with different parties. I already have contacts to communicate across campus

What is the No. 1 issue you think the House should take up next year, and what is your suggestion for how the House should solve that issue?
COMMUNICATION. Hopefully my networking initiative will help solve the lack of student representation in SGA. Many students do not feel represented by SGA, mainly because of a lack of communication. I am willing to meet with anyone who wishes to voice a concern, and bring those concerns to the SGA executive board, and before the House of Representatives.

What is the one unique thing you have done as a student at TCU that sets you apart from other students?
I have allowed myself to become a well-rounded individual, a “TCU Renaissance Man” if you will. I don’t walk around campus with an SGA stamp on my forehead. I feel that I help bridge the gap between all types of students across campus. I am actively involved with the music department, the journalism department, the TCU admissions office, and many TCU leadership organizations.

Do you support the proposed SGA fee increase? Why or why not?
I do support the SGA increase from $20 to $30. As a former member of the Finance Committee, I understand how funds are allocated to certain groups. More groups need more funds, as TCU expands and as inflation rises. The TCU fee has not increased in many years, and is much lower compared to other small private school Student Government fees. The fee increase will give more groups better opportunities to participate in outside activities.

How do you think communication can be improved among different groups on campus?
I plan on setting up a communications initiative to actively represent as many groups on campus as I possibly can. This would involve a group of representatives meeting with every campus organization at least once during the year. All comments, concerns and complaints will be reviewed and compiled. Each organization will be represented equally and fairly in SGA. Then I will talk to the administration about what changes can be made specific to each group.

What are your goals if elected Student Government Association Secretary?
My primary purpose is to enhance the stream of communication between Student Government Association and the student body. As a secretary, one must learn to be an effective liaison, not just an efficient scribe. The heart of any good organization is effective communication. I also honestly hope to add some variety and further enlightenment to Student Government. I want to assure that all spectrums and opinions are acknowledged, evaluated, and considered.

What are your qualifications to serve as Student Government Association Secretary?
I have a propensity to be very organized, systematic, and efficient. I know how to keep things arranged so that they will not become discombobulated. I also tend to be very easy to get along with. Although the secretarial position does not require as much student body interaction, one must yet have the ability to get along with the people they are working with. For that matter, not only can I be a leader, but

What is the No. 1 issue you think the House should take up next year, and what is your suggestion for how the House should solve that issue?
While reshaping the CUE, I believe that it is very important to encourage some type of cultural awareness class within the UCR. Although study abroad classes are offered, international organizations are available, and friendship among students of different backgrounds is encouraged, students don’t always feel obligated or motivated to take advantage of these opportunities. Students might feel more stimulated to participate in these opportunities if something like this class were enforced.

What is the one unique thing you have done as a student at TCU that sets you apart from other students?
Upon arrival at TCU, I became involved with as many organizations as I could. By the end of the semester, I had been appointed President of Word of Truth Gospel Choir, Vice President of Peer Education in Hyper Frogs, Freshman representative in the theatre department, and Area 6 Student Advisory Committee Member for the United States largest peer education organization, BACCHUS & GAMMA. I believe that this display of both enthusiasm and responsibility has definitely set

Do you support the proposed SGA fee increase? Why or why not?
The first thing that needs to be done is that their must always be a current listing of every contact person for every organization on campus. The organization book handed out only has advisor information, some of which is not correct or current. I propose that each organization appoint someone responsible for being a mediator, whether it is a president, secretary, or appointed position. The so-called mediator for each organization would submit a calendar

How do you think communication can be improved among different groups on campus?
Honestly, TCU students tend to not know where their money is going in the first place. Although in comparison to several schools around the nation, TCU is definitely not the cheapest, a slight fee increase for SGA would not make or break one’s choice to attend or leave this university. The truth of the matter is that TCU’S Student Government Association does do a considerable amount of work to encourage inclusiveness among TCU students.
