Students’ input wanted on curriculum

Last week, Faculty Senate chairwoman Peggy Watson sent an e-mail to the faculty and students inviting them to participate in two separate question and answer sessions about the core curriculum.

The meetings, which begin today with faculty, conclude with next Tuesday’s student session. Both meetings will take place at 3:30 p.m. in Dan Rogers Hall, Room 134.

We commend the Faculty Senate for taking the initiative to ask for input about a project that affects numerous areas of the campus. The core curriculum has been a hot issue for everyone and they are opening the doors to those who might be affected.

At times, students feel like the administration and Board of Trustees tend to make decisions without even consulting them.

Although many students may not believe the session will affect them because the new requirements will be implemented to future students, the importance may lay in the value of your degree.

As the university tries to improve the academic experience, the recognition of strong academics weighs heavily on the national view of the university.

And of course, the national view can be future employers.

The Faculty Senate has done the right thing and now it’s time for the students to do the same.

Share your input. The fate of your university image is at stake as well as your degree.
