New
guidelines set for groups to be recognized
by Sam Eaton
Staff Reporter
The Student
Organization Committee held mandatory meetings Sunday and
Monday, and will have another meeting Tuesday for campus groups
wanting to become officially recognized student organizations.
Starting
this year, the Student Organization Committee required all
campus organizations to attend training meetings. In addition
to the mandatory meetings, groups must submit an organizational
renewal form that includes a list of officers, an up-to-date
constitution and a hazing policy form.
Darron
Turner, director of Intercultural Education and Services,
said there would be consequences if an organization did not
send a representative to one of the meetings.
If
a representative doesnt show up at a meeting, they will
be officially removed from TCUs list of recognized student
organizations, which means they cant use TCUs
name, they cant organize on TCUs campus, they
cant apply for money, they cant have any association
in terms of TCU students as an organization, Turner
said.
Turner
said he had discussed the idea of aligning all campus organizations
with Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Don Mills and Director
of Student Organization Services Rick Barnes.
HyperFrog
President Kyle Engelbrecht attended the meeting Sunday and
said he thought the meetings were a practical idea.
I
think the communication between the school and organizations
is a great idea, Engelbrecht said. It will really
help our organization when were looking to co-program
an event with another organization.
Turner
said the university needed an idea of how many organizations
were on campus to allow new students to learn about the organizations.
The
main purpose is to get a handle on how many organizations
we have that are active and functioning, Turner said.
It also provides a way for students to communicate with
these organizations, particularly incoming students that are
looking to join organizations that may or may not be present
at the Activities Fair.
