Five Frogs qualify for Regionals at Invitational
The TCU Flyin’ Frogs recorded five NCAA Regional qualifying marks Saturday at the Tom Tellez Invitational, which was held at the University of Houston.

Jerry Harris paced the men’s team with a first place finish and an NCAA Regional qualifying mark in the 400 meters with a time of 46.21 seconds, easily winning the race by nearly two seconds. He will join teammate Brandon Simpson in the Regional meet in the 400 meters. Simpson did not compete Saturday.

On the women’s side, Donita Harmon (23.3h) and Monica Twum (23.5h) finished one-two in the 200 meter dash, both with Regional qualifying marks. Larissa Bakasa also qualified for the Regional meet at 400 meters with a second place time of 55.67. The women’s 4x100 meter relay team of La’ Toya White, Harmon, Tiffany Starts and Twum, improved its Regional qualifying mark by five one-hundredths of a second to 44.65, edging Houston for the gold medal by one one-hundredth of a second.

The Frogs also had a first place performances from Jabari Fields in the 200 meter dash and Justina Malone in the 800 meter run and second place finishes from Brandal Lawrence in the triple jump and Mary Kinyanjui in the 1500 meter run.

Women’s tennis team loses match to Oklahoma

The 51st-ranked TCU women’s tennis team lost its second straight 4-3 match at Oklahoma’s Headington Family Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.

Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead sweeping TCU in doubles. OU’s 49th-ranked pair of Anda Perianu and Heather Saluri took an 8-4 victory over TCU’s 51st-ranked duo of junior Paty Aburto and senior Rosa Perez. The Sooner duo of Jessica Braver and Melissa Mendieta beat sophomore Ivonne Andrade and senior Brenna Shackelford at the third doubles slot, 9-7, to clinch the point.

In singles, Pierce claimed the Horned Frogs’ first point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Saluri at No. 3 while OU’s Griffin put the Sooners back up by one with a 6-1, 7-5 victory against freshman Gloriann Lopez at No. 4.
