Women’s relay teams take third place at track meet

The TCU women’s 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams both took third place finishes on the final day of the 76th running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, completed Saturday at the Mike E. Myers Stadium. The 4x100 relay unit of La’ Toya White, Donita Harmon, Tiffany Starts and Monica Twum circled the track in a season-best time of 44.00 seconds, 62 hundredths of a second better than their previous best mark, set in Friday’s preliminaries. The 4x200 relay unit of White, Harmon, Larissa Bakasa and Twum recorded a time of 1:33.94. Both quartets finished third behind LSU and Texas.

Frogs lose two in 3-game series against Memphis

After TCU junior Clayton Jerome struck out a career-high 12 in game one, Memphis rallied to claim game two to ensure a split of Saturday’s doubleheader and give the Tigers a two games to one series victory over the Horned Frogs this weekend at Nat Buring Stadium. TCU (20-15, 7-5 Conference USA) took Saturday’s opener 8-0, while Memphis (10-20, 3-9 C-USA) won the nightcap 5-4. The teams played two on Saturday in order to conclude their three-game C-USA series before expected rain moves into the Memphis area Sunday.

Jerome was the story of the game one shutout. The right-hander fanned two Tigers in each of his first four innings and one more in each of the last four frames en route to the 12-strikeout performance.
