Students are
strongly encouraged to attend the TCU Career Fair to get an edge
on the tight job market, said Bill Stowe, associate director of
Career Services.
Forty local
and national corporations will be recruiting at TCUs Career
Night, which is sponsored by TCU Career Services, Delta Sigma Pi,
Public Relations Student Society of America and TCU Athletic Academic
Services.
Recruiters will
be seeking all majors for various jobs and internships, Stowe said.
This is a way students can personally hand in their résumé
instead of losing it in cyberspace, he said.
The number of
companies that will be at TCUs Career Fair exceeds the number
of companies present at other job fairs in the area this year, said
Britten Gray, a junior marketing major and president of Delta Sigma
Pi, the business fraternity.
Gray said connections
are essential for students preparing to enter the workforce.
Delta Sigma gets involved to provide the TCU community with
networking, Gray said. The students who attend will
be a step ahead.
Bethany Logan,
a senior advertising/public relations major and vice president of
PRSSA said she attended the fair last year without a particular
goal in mind and learned about public relations positions.
I met
someone at AmeriCredit Corp. who called me and gave me a summer
internship a few months later, Logan said.
Seniors
will bring their résumés, do a screening interview
and hope for a further interview, Stowe said. Juniors
can look for internships while freshmen and sophomores can get an
idea of what careers are out there.
Logan said students
who attend should wear business suits. If a student doesnt
have a business suit Logan recommends dress pants or a skirt and
nice button-down shirt.
Bring
a résumé and a personality ready to network and make
connections, Logan said.
The TCU Career Fair will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Student
Center Ballroom.
