The TCU women’s basketball team had a good weekend, said head coach Jeff Mittie. The Frogs (20-5 and 10-2 Conference USA) defeated both Memphis (11-14 and 5-7 C-USA) and Saint Louis (11-14 and 4-8 C-USA) on Friday and Sunday respectively.

“We had a good weekend,” said Mittie. “With two wins it makes the weekend very enjoyable.”

The Frogs head into the final weekend of the regular season with a half game lead over No. 24 Cincinnati(21-4 and 10-3 C-USA).

The Frogs are ranked No. 26 again by the ESPN/USA TODAY Coaches’ Poll falling short of making the Top 25 after dropping out last week.

Sophomore forward Tiffany Evans said it is not a big concern anymore to make the Top 25.

“It isn’t as big of a deal to us anymore,” said Evans. “We are more focused on winning the conference championships.”

With Friday’s win, the Frogs clinch at least a share of the conference championship, and with two wins they win the C-USA regular season championship outright.

“We have a chance to win the conference championship this weekend,” said Mittie. “NCAA Tournament hopes are on the line.”

The Frogs will face conference foes DePaul (15-10 and 8-4 C-USA) and Marquette (14-11 and 7-5 C-USA) in their last home games of the season.

Evans has stepped up play in last three games scoring in double figures in all three games.

“She has really stepped it up lately,” said Mittie. “She seems to be more comfortable in the three spot than she has been all year. She was big for us in both games over the weekend.”

Evans said her teammates helped her out during her slump.

“I have gained my confidence back after the slump I was in,” said Evans. “My teammates supported me and helped me through it.”

TCU will have one last opportunity to see the women’s basketball team this weekend at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. The Frogs are averaging 2,561 fans in attendance at home games. Daniel-Meyer Coliseum has a capacity of 7,200 people.

Mittie said he expects to see a big crowd this weekend.

“I would hope we would have a huge crowd this weekend at both games,” said Mittie.
Evans said she is looking forward to ending the season at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
“I think it will be great to end the season at home,” Evans said.

Junior guard Ashanti Nix said she likes road trips but there is no place like home.
“It is a lot better to play in front of your own crowd,” said Nix.
