More fans needed at baseball games

It was the first home game for the TCU baseball team this year and coaches and players said the team can use all the help they can get.

The crowd for Tuesday’s 14-13 loss to Texas Tech was announced as 232, with a majority of the fans being students. But the capacity for the TCU Diamond is 1,500.

“It would be nice to have to have a bigger crowd,” said sophomore outfielder Jake Duncan.

Head coach Lance Brown said after the game that the support from the fans is a welcome change from the travel endured on the road.

“We hadn’t played at home yet (this year),” Brown said. “So when you get people here yelling for us where nobody has been, I think that helps.”

This is the first of five consecutive home games for the team. Despite the respite-natured fans in attendance, students say there is plenty of room for more fans and more support.
Kerri Mold, a sophomore kinesiology major and avid Frogs fan, said the team is exciting and should have more support.

“They are doing really well, and it’s fun when you know all of the guys,” Mold said. “They have a chance to do really well in conference.”

Erika Davis, a freshman biology major and Duncan’s girlfriend, said fan support is a big boost for the team.

“It gets them fired up if the fans are excited,” said Davis, “and it gives them moral support.”

But you don’t need to be dating a player to come and enjoy the game.

If you need a study break, the game gives you a perfect chance to relax and enjoy the competition. Admission for students and faculty are free, so you don’t have to worry about any costs.

Also, construction is already underway on the new Lupton Baseball Stadium, which will have a seating capacity of 3,500. If the we cannot fill out the stadium we have right now, what kind of results do we expect with a stadium that is farther away from main campus?

To attract top-notch recruits and to make this a program of national prominence, the team is in need of more support from the Horned Frog faithful.

With four more games in the next seven days (starting with 2:05 p.m. today), there is plenty of opportunity to get out there and support the team.
