REALITY

Cheers and jeers of reality TV

Reality television is everywhere, and it doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has given reality television its own category at the Emmy Awards. And whether you love it, hate it or couldn’t care less, “reality” is getting high ratings. Here are some of our highs and lows of reality television.

Cheers: For having Bob be the next Bachelor. He’s OK with not having a perfect body type, and he’s a real authentic guy.

Jeers: For not having people of diverse races on the shows. Real life has that.

Cheers: For sparing us from most of those awful summer replacement sitcoms.

Jeers: For not being much of an improvement from them.

Cheers: For giving us something to debate about.

Jeers: For rumors that some of the scenes are scripted.

Cheers: For letting the loyal viewer see Trista and Ryan wed because we’ve been there since the beginning.

Jeers: For portraying all people as dramatic morons that value the dollar over morals, pride and self-worth.

Cheers: for making us all feel like better people compared to whiny Jessica Simpson and stuck-up Nick Lachey.

Jeers: For adding to our cultural decay.

Cheers: For entertaining us with “Survivor” and “Fear Factor” challenges where contestants eat giant bugs. That’s cool.

Jeers: For flooding the airwaves.

Cheers: For claiming to reflect what real life is really like.

Jeers: For falling short of that. Most people have actual jobs.
