SGA election code is temporarily suspended

Student Government Association passed a resolution Tuesday night temporarily suspending its election code to approve its House Judiciary Board Committee.

Elections and regulations chairman Nick James said the committee is necessary in case any violations of the SGA election code are committed during the upcoming elections.

“It’s one of those things that you can’t not do,” James said. “It has to be done.”

James, a junior political science major, said the committee is not currently in place because of his own mistake.

Applications for the committee board will be turned in by Friday and will be presented for approval Tuesday, James said.

He said the committee will consist of himself, four house members, three non-house members, a member of Campus Life and newly appointed SGA Parliamentarian John Athon.

Athon, a junior history major, will complete the term of previous parliamentarian Blake Eason, who stepped down in order to run for SGA president.

Athon has been a member of SGA for four semesters and was appointed by SGA vice president Andrea Reed.
