The mens soccer team managed a good offensive showing
in its 3-1 victory over Centenary Sunday, but associate head
coach Blake Amos said it was the Frogs defense that won the
game.
We
put a lot of defensive pressure on them and forced them to
make mistakes, Amos said. We didnt give
up any goals.

TCU
(3-7-1, Conference USA 1-3) ended its five match-losing streak
with a win against Centenary (4-5). The Frogs snapped a scoreless
drought, which lasted 378 minutes.
The
game was originally scheduled to be played in Shreveport,
La., but because of wet weather the game was moved to Garvey-Rosenthal
Soccer Stadium.
It
is always a plus to play at home because then we dont
have to travel, Amos said.
The first half started with an injury to junior goalkeeper
Mike Lahoud, who suffered a concussion when Centenary midfielder
Jeffrey Krulin ran into him in the 21st minute.
Junior
goalkeeper Shane Bowen replaced Lahoud in the lineup.
In
the 25th minute, the Frogs got on the board when junior forward
Nick Browne put a header in the back of the net putting TCU
up 1-0. Brownes third goal of the season ended the Frogs
three-match scoring drought.
It
(the goal) gave us momentum, and a boost of confidence,
Bowen said.
Two
minutes later, the Gents countered with a goal from forward
Garrett Pickard, his seventh of the season. Right before the
half sophomore forward Matt Chambers netted his second goal
of the season to put the Frogs up 2-1. Chambers scored again
in the second half.
This
win was a reward for playing hard, Amos said It
was a good win for us.
The
Frogs are now in 10th place in C-USA. TCU would move up with
a win Sunday when they travel to Greenville N.C. to play East
Carolina (5-6, C-USA 2-4).
Lahoud
is doubtful to start against the Pirates. Sophomore forward
Andrew Porteous will sit out another week with a sprained
ankle he suffered back in September.
